The Legend replaced the “Competitor” helicopter in 1989. While still heavily based on the same Hirobo-sourced mechanicals as the Competitor and Cobra, the Legend offered several intriguing new features. The Legend came with a belt drive for the tail rotor, and could be ordered with a number of different main rotor heads; namely the normal tried and true Hirobo "custom rotorhead", the competitor "pro" rotorhead, flybarless rotorhead, or the "elite" underslung rotorhead.

Much to the dismay of its many fans and customers, GMP suddenly and quite unexpectedly closed its doors in 1989, never to be heard of again. The company became embroiled in a major business dispute with Hirobo, which lead to the termination of GMP's Mitsui Bank business financing. Because the Legend was only produced since 1988 or 1989, there are very few in existence today, much less airworthy examples.
