NSXPO

From: David Goward <dgoward@ATTGLOBAL.NET>
Subject: SoCal NSXPO Caravan
If someone has already started a thread on this subject I apologize in
advance, but if not, consider this a call to establish an interest list of
those who are interested in driving out to
seems early, but I earned my gray hair worrying about crap like this, so
private me if you're thinking of driving and I'll maintain the list and
coordinate with other groups so we can meet up along the way.

Caravan Stop in
Baymont Inn &
7944 Gateway Blvd. East
Phone: 915-591-3300
The Baymont Inn is located in east
10 and Yarbrough Dr. From I-10 East, take EXIT #28B (Yarbrough Dr. Exit)
and
after exiting the freeway ramp, move immediately to the right hand lane of
the frontage road. Look for the Baymont Inn entrance directly off the
freeway frontage road between the Pizza Hut and Applebee's restaurants.
(Note: if you miss the first Baymont entrance, just stay in the right hand
frontage road lane and turn right at Yarbrough Dr. There is a secondary
Baymont entrance located directly off
hole on the right hand side of this entrance.)
For reservations, call the Baymont Inn (East) at 915-591-3300 and tell them
you are with the NSXPO Group for the night of October 16th. There are
four
different room types reserved at the following special rates:
(8) Standard room with a king bed: $47
(8) Standard room with double beds: $47
(2) Leisure Suites: $57
(2) Two Room Suites: $77
All of the reserved rooms are nonsmoking so please tell reservations if you
would like to change this, or if you have any other special requests.
Also,
if you choose a suite, please verify the available accommodation options that
are included.
There is plenty of good safe parking in the rear of the Baymont. The
buildings and parking areas are well lighted. There will be a guard at
the
hotel entrance during the night.
Complimentary breakfast is included in the hotel lobby area. There are
also
plenty of restaurants and fast-food restaurants near the Baymont.
There is a Diamond Shamrock Service Station across
Chevron Station directly across Interstate 10.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any problems making reservations.
Also, if you have any questions about the above information or other
needs
you might have during your brief visit to

From
Marc W., our man in Dallas:
You will be driving in from the West on I-20. If you want to stay somewhere
on East of the metroplex to avoid morning traffic, you put yourself in an
area that really has nothing in the way of motels/ hotels/ restaurants, and
gas stations. In fact, I-20 runs pretty well South of Dallas proper. There
is not a heck of a lot along either side of the freeway.
What you are going to have to do if you want a decent next to / hotels &
restaurants is to turn up I-635 for 4 miles. Take exit #4. Turn left under
the freeway (going West) on Scene Rd. / Military Pkwy. Here you have a
Mobil, Chevron (with car wash), Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut, Jack in the
Box, Taco Bueno, Waffle House, IHOP, McDonalds, Trail Dust Steakhouse,
Super 8 Motel, and a Quality Inn.
The Super 8 motel is older but looks to be kept up in pretty good shape. I
did not take a look at the rooms, but it's probably what you'd expect for
typical interstate motel accommodations. I spoke to Betty Bilbrey, the
GM. She quoted a group rate of $47 plus tax per room 1-4 person
occupancy.
You must specify that you are with the NSXCA when you call.

Right on the other side of the parking lot is the IHOP, which makes
breakfast a no-brainer. Directly behind the Super 8 is a brand new
Quality
Inn. It is so new that when I visited today (8/31/00) they were waiting for
their final building inspection. They expect to open for business next
week. Carlos, the sales manager quoted $69 plus tax as his group rate. That
includes the continental breakfast in the lobby. They have a small indoor
pool as well.

Anyway, since these motels are right next to each other, we can have the
option of staying at either one, depending on individual tastes / budgets.
I recommend for dinner to go to the Trail Dust steakhouse. It's a fun
Texas-Style BBQ steak house. We have gone to the one near our house several
time, but never actually to this location. Wear an old necktie to dinner.
The waitstaff will stop the music, come over to the table in mass, cut off
the tie, and pin it to the wall. This is one of their trademarks it's
supposed to be a casual fun place no ties allowed! We come wearing
shorts,
t-shirts and an old ugly tie just for fun. When we get a little closer to
the date, I'd like to set up the dinner, and have the Dallas NSX'ers come
down for dinner as well.
Lunch
stop and detour around construction in Shreveport
BILL;
If you guys will be interested in lunch around the time to approach
Shreveport, there are 2 truckstops, aCrackerbarrel, and an I-HOP on the
right
side of the highway. Your choice, and I will meet you there. We can get
our
photos and eat and I will escort you to the other side of Shreveport and you
won't have to get in the MESS of I20 construction.
THE EXIT YOU NEED TO TAKE IN SHREVEPORT FOR CRACKERBARREL IS
# 10 @ PINES ROAD.
FOLLOW THE EXIT TO THE RIGHT ...YIELD SIGN...CONTINUE RIGHT
TO TRAFFIC
SIGNAL THEN TAKE A SHARP RIGHT (WALMART SUPERSTORE) ON LEFT.
KEEP RIGHT AND CRACKERBARREL IS ON THE LEFT APPX 300 YDS ...
I WILL BE
THERE AT NOON AND IF YOU CAN TELL ME HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE WITH YOU I CAN
ARRANGE FOR A TABLE(S)...
